Dick grew up at Morpeth in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales and worked on cattle, wool and farming properties in the '60s, and drove coal trucks for the mines. More recently, Dick ran country pubs for fifteen years, at Bingara on the Gwyder in NSW and at Hinton in the Hunter Valley.

Dick was approaching 40 years of age when he bought his first guitar and taught himself a few songs. Dick also played harmonica and could usually be persuaded to run off a few tunes in the bar or around a campfire. He delivers a pretty good Elvis and, as diverse as they may seem, Elvis Presley and Slim Dusty were his greatest musical influences.

It was only when he bought the Dalby Tourist Park on the Darling Downs of Queensland that Dick started to perform on a more regular basis for the tourists around a winter campfire. It was their requests for a CD as a souvenir of their country travels that prompted Dick to record some of his old favourites plus a few of his own songs. So at the ripe young age of 58, this is his first CD.
